Oneness

What does the term “Oneness” bring up for you?

Oneness is a term that is being used increasingly often in the spiritual community these days. When I hear the term oneness and think about the totality of the meaning of that concept, I feel good, warm and fuzzy about it. I, for one, am tired to wondering who’s trustworthy, what’s someone’s agenda, all the division in the world. I’m ready to walk around with my heart open, heart on my sleeve connecting with others on a deep level.

However, almost immediately after I feel the warm and fuzzies, I get another no so pleasant feeling of déjà vu. Like this term “oneness” is another word for colour blindness or the sentiment of “all of that is in the past, we can be one”. Or even worse, “All lives matter.” On the surface, all of those phrases seem to mean well unless one takes the time to research the context and bias behind the sentiments. Many times, it belittles the lived experience of the person who is usually in the marginalised group while soothing the conscience of the person in the non-marginalised group.

I often hear people talk about how we must overlook or overcome the constructs humans have come up with in order to get to our spirituality. I can agree with that up to a point. Yes, time, money, race, gender, sexuality, and so much more are constructs humans have come up with to live with and understand this 3D world for better or worse. But with so much differentiation in our species and the other species we share this Earth with, shouldn’t we be embracing our differences and learning to live in Oneness interdependently? Why can’t Oneness look like everyone accepting who we are in the present moment and supporting each other’s personal journey? Differences are beautiful and should be celebrated, not ignored and treated as Other.

Saying that constructs should be risen above because they have no relevance, is a slippery slope if no one has learned the lesson of acceptance. It comes from a privileged mindset. Constantly parroting the saying “We are souls/spirits in a human/physical body” as an explanation for why we should ignore constructs can be a lazy excuse to not be aware of what is actually going on around us. The practice of turning a blind eye and insulating themselves from the harsh reality others have to live in day to day is one that contributes to the mess humanity finds themselves in today. I would argue that we are in these meat suits to grow and find true ways to not use differences to divide but to see everyone’s differences as just another coloured thread in this beautiful tapestry called Earth. When everyone is the same, it makes for a boring picture. In truly knowing each other and accepting the totalities of each other, we can grow and rise as a species.

As a spiritual being, we are meant to discover and correct the human problems/agendas/issues that caused the constructs in the first place so they truly won’t be needed in the 3D.

In these times of chaos and systems breaking down, it’s time for a change in the way humans interact with each other. I believe humans can get to a state of Oneness but it will take awareness, acceptance, true reconciliation, accountability, forgiveness and action-oriented steps to completely change systems that have in place for centuries. The spiritual community can be the frontrunners in helping mankind make the shift from where we have been to who we are meant to be – yes, still in the 3D. Still within these human bodies.
